Residential Conveyancing - Right to Buy
If you have been offered the ‘right to buy’ by your council or housing association landlord, you will probably have been inundated with papers that do not make sense. You may be dealing with the purchase of a property for the first time and find the process confusing or difficult.
Where you are taking advantage of a right to buy, you will be offered a discount by the Council which means that you can take advantage of a lower purchase price. However, the Council or Housing Association does have the right to have some of the discount repaid should you sell the property within a certain time after your purchase and our conveyancing solicitors will advise you on the consequences of this.
Where you are buying a leasehold property from the council or housing association you will no longer be ‘tenant’, but will still have to pay rent and other charges. You will also have a form of lease from the council which we will explain to you. Our conveyancing solicitors will deal with all the legal work involved in the mortgage as part of the fee quote.
